The Summer 2020 issue of American DBE Magazine features a cover story remembering the life and legacy of Andrea Harris. Harris was a fierce advocate for minority- and women-owned DBE businesses in North Carolina and across the country. She was one of the founders of the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development in 1986. The agency served as the host for the Minority Business Development Center of North Carolina for many years; and currently hosts the South Atlantic Region Small Business Transportation Resource Center and the SBA Women’s Business Center of North Carolina.
This issue of American DBE also features stories addressing the impacts and opportunities the coronavirus pandemic has created during 2020, and recommendations for DBE, MBE and WBE firms to prepare for the upcoming months ahead. Our DBE Power Player story highlights Yerba Buena Engineering & Construction, a San Francisco-based firm that is reclaiming its success by scaling back and focusing on its core market and services.
Other stories in this issue include the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP), the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), and a story highlighting the 30th Anniversary of the City of Atlanta’s Brimmer-Marshall Disparity Study.
Business development articles written by subject matter experts are included in the issue to help DBE firms and practitioners improve their knowledge and performance. These stories are written by Colette Holt & Joanne Lubart, Franklin M. Lee, Allen Brown, Karen Barbour, Kurt Merriweather and Marcus Garner.
